If you love the ocean, there is no bettter place than Uluwatu, Bali.
Most freedive centers in Southeast Asia operate in tiny towns, in the middle of nowhere.
No good restaurants.
No surfing.
No nightlife.
No convenience.

The ocean around Uluwatu is truly special.
Full of perfect barrels, dugongs, spanish mackerel & white sand beaches.
If you’re lucky, you might even see some dolphins, whalesharks or baby humpback whales breaching on the surface.
But it’s impossible to freedive here…unless you have a boat.
Our traditional Balinese fishing boat operates from Padang Padang Beach. One of the most beautiful beaches on Earth. You can even watch our boat pick us up live on Surfline 🤙
Past the surfers, past the dugongs, 20 minutes from shore, the visibility is usually around 75 feet (20 meters) of crystal clear blue water.
If you already know how to freedive, there’s a big group of us who live here and go out for training sessions regularly.
For spearfishing, we also have a few other boats in different parts of the island, depending on the season & fish species you’re after.
The waves are too amazing, & the secret is out.
For better or worse, Uluwatu is no longer a sleepy surf village.
It’s now home to some of the coolest destinations in Bali, most of which are within walking distance of our dive center. Some of our favorites are:
There are literally hundreds of other amazing cafes, restaurants, gyms, spas & beach clubs in the area to choose from.
But, in our opinion, the coolest place to hangout is on Bingin beach, at sunset, grilling a freshly-speared fish, Balinese style, for just a few dollars.
If you’re feeling extra adventurous, Jimbaran Fish Market, a few miles to the north, is one of the most interesting places in all of Bali. You will be the only tourist there, which is a good thing 🙂
Our saltwater pool is MASSIVE.
2 ½ meters deep throughout, it’s perfect for training - breathold, dynamic, & speargun target practice.
After your training session, you can have a coconut or a beer at the bar, which is connected to the pool.
Speargun target practice is extremely underrated...probably because most resorts don’t allow it.
Luckily, Kala Surf Camp is not like most resorts 🙃
Kraken Spearguns have the most advanced speargun technology in the world. All of their pool testing is done here as well.
On any given day in the pool, you might see people practicing their duck dive (for both freediving and surfing), tweaking their giant tuna speargun before a trip to remote Indonesia, or Charles (our head instructor) practicing his ridiculous 8+ minute breathold.

Kala Surf Camp is one of the coolest places in Bali.
In addition to the aforementioned pool, the restaurant here makes the best burgers in Bali (trust us, we’re experts). There's a surf-skate bowl, slackline, & a crazy rooftop area that is due to be ready in May 2025.
The rooftop, with panoramic views of the ocean, will have a sauna, ice bath, yoga studio, coworking space & bar/lounge area.
